Qatar Airlines carried out 200 individuals Thursday.
Two hundred Americans and other foreign nationals were allowed to fly out of Afghanistan on Thursday by the Taliban. They were the first on any international flight out of Kabul’s airport since President Joe Biden pulled U.S. forces out of the country.
However, there still has been no word if the six private charter planes held in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif will be allowed to depart. More than 100 Americans along with another 1,500 refugees are being blocked from flying out, even though they were already on planes at the airport.
Mixed messages have come from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken who said Wednesday that he had urged the Taliban to allow the private charter flights to leave the country, although earlier he had said some of the passengers do not have required documentation and cannot be properly vetted by the U.S. with no embassy or others to perform that job.
Secretary Blinken said, “The bottom line is: Those charter flights need to be able to depart. And we will work every day to make sure that they’re able to do that.”
Taliban leaders say they will allow people with proper documents to leave the country. Taliban officials insist they are currently going through the manifests, and passenger documents, for the charter flights at Mazar-e-Sharif.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Blinken and the officials of the State Department coordinating exits from Afghanistan.
- For every American who wants to leave Afghanistan to be able to safely depart.
- For Afghan allies and other vulnerable citizens of Afghanistan who are also seeking to leave their country.
